THE NIGHT BEFORE SESSION
No parents were laughing because of their fate;
Computers were put in the schools with care,
In hopes that the students soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
Not knowing personal data would be mined from their heads,
And mama in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just written a letter to opt our kids out of this crap-
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters, and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow,
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below;
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But The People, LLC, and three laws held so dear,
With dems and repubs, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment these laws did the trick.
...But then...
More rabid than vultures our BESE they came,
And White whistled, and shouted, and call'd them by name:
"Now! Miranti, now! Beebe, now! Smith, Who? and Garvey,
"On! Guillot, on! Jones, on! Bradford, Hill, Roemer, Boffy;
"To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
"Now dash away! dash away! and keep confusing all!
As dry leaves before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So up to the house-top, the BESE they flew,
Being driven by John White--and the governor too:
And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof,
The snickering and laughing of each of these kooks.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney John White came with a LEAP and a bound:
He was dressed all in data tags from his head to his foot,
And his credibility was tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of test forms was flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack:
His eyes - they were beady! - and hollow - not merry,
His cheeks were sunken, his pinocchio nose not like a cherry;
And the governor declared, "Do not speak of the new laws,"
For fear that his Ed. Reform would become a lost cause.
While White made sure the Acts were abused and confused,
Gov. Jindal continued his Anti-Common Core ruse.
To mislead the public on Common Core was his game,
Since he always counted on using it for his campaign :
Fake lawsuits and petitions the governor filed for himself,
And I laughed when I saw them in spite of myself;
With a wink of their eyes and a twist of their heads,
Soon gave me to know I had everything to dread.
They spoke not a word, but went straight to their work - Destroying Representative Government - My WHAT BIG JERKS!
And making sure New Orleans Schools were very well hosed, And giving high fives, up the RSD chimney they rose.
They sprang to their sleigh, to BESE gave a whistle,
And away they all flew, like the down of a thistle:
But I heard them exclaim, ere they drove out of sight -
*"Faux School Choice for All, and to all a sleepless night..."
common core standards and data driven accountability - brought to you by unelected councils, task forces, boards and commissions and paid for with your own tax dollars.
