Should Rep. Nancy Landry's HB 568 become law, the Louisiana Dept. of Education will be authorized to share our children's information with universities for research purposes.
Rep. Landry actually stated that Stanford University contacted her regarding their inability to gain access to our children’s information.
With HB 568, Rep. Landry has placed the desire of researchers at Stanford over the directive from LA citizens that our children's right to privacy be protected in the manner expressed during the 2014 legislative session when Louisiana Unanimously Passed The Strongest Student Data Privacy Law In The Nation.
In contrast to Rep. Landry’s concern that Stanford University's Center for Research on Education Outcomes (CREDO) “needs” to use our children's information, others are concerned that CREDO employs "questionable research methods" resulting in findings that "have resulted in widespread calls to close failing schools without third party vetting of the data or valid education science."

In fact, Stanford's own Economist Caroline Hoxby has reported that "CREDO studies are full of negative biases that can only be resolved by employing rigorous research methodologies..." There is also the problem that "leading charter school advocates," (such as Rep. Landry) "have embraced CREDO data without investigation" and have used such data to provide "support for charter school laws and accountability systems."
An even bigger concern where HB 568 is concerned is that, while Rep. Landry wants universities (both inside and outside of LA) to have access to our children's information, researchers at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (right in Rep. Landry's neck of the woods) have shown us time and time again that having access to our children and our children's data is the last thing we want them to do!
Example #1: "Mary Sciaraffa, PhD, CFLE, is an assistant professor of child and family studies and the director of the Early Childhood Lab at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. These roles allow her to model putting theory to practice on a daily basis with children and adults. [email protected]"

Take a look at the following link to see what Dr. Sciaraffa thinks should be put into practice at ULL's "Early Childhood Lab:"
“You Want Me to Talk to Children about What?"
“You Want Me to Talk to Children about What?"
Please, notice that Dr. Sciaraffa invokes the wisdom of the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) to bolster her findings.
The History of SIECUS is Noteworthy:
"In 1947, sexologist Alfred Kinsey founded the Institute for Sex Research at Indiana University now known as the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction. The Kinsey Institute then created SIECUS in 1964 as its educational arm. Its first director was Dr. Mary Calderone, the former medical director of Planned Parenthood."
According to Dr. Miriam Grossman, M.D.:
"SIECUS was founded by Dr. Mary Calderone, the former medical director of Planned Parenthood, with seed money from Hugh Hefner, the man who founded Playboy magazine. Like Kinsey, Mary believed there was an urgent need to break from traditional views of sexuality. In a book written for parents, the founder of SIECUS said, 'Children are sexual and think sexual thoughts and do sexual things.'
There were officials within SIECUS who were, in fact, so radical that they argued publicly for relaxing the taboos against adult-child sexuality, even incest.
This was documented in a Time magazine article in 1980 called Attacking the Last Taboo in which Pomeroy, Vice President of SIECUS’s Board of Directors stated, 'It is time to admit that incest need not be a perversion or a symptom of mental illness,' he says. 'Incest between . . . children and adults . . . can sometimes be beneficial.' John Money, also a SIECUS board member said, 'Childhood sexual experience such as being the partner of a relative or of an older person need not necessarily affect the child adversely.'
Time magazine called these people the 'pro-incest lobby.'"
DOES Rep. Landry know what "research" is being conducted in her own backyard?!?
HB 568 is up for debate and final passage in the House on Thursday, 5-25-17.
Now that we know what passes for "research", please, contact the representatives and have as many of your contacts do the same. Make sure they all know this example of "research" and ask them to VOTE NO to HB 568 (Landry).
Tell them that our children deserve to be protected and left alone!
