This morning, we sent the following email to each of the representatives followed by our earlier request of the
Clerk of the House and the Secretary of the Senate.
Dear Representatives:
We ask that you review the request we submitted to Clerk Speer and Secretary Koepp. Please, note that we have aligned our request as closely as possible to the "anonymous"/"non-identifiable"/"de-identified" data (as characterized by Rep. Landry) that will be released from our children's records should HB 568 (Landry) become law.
We understand that Clerk Speer and Secretary Koepp are only authorized to release records considered to be "public." Any other requested information will have to be provided by you via anonymous surveys should you choose to participate.
Our children's information exists as part of their education records and is not considered to be "public record;" however, HB 568 will authorize release of their private information by LDOE to institutions...whether or not their parents choose to participate and with no guarantees or knowledge of what all may happen to the data once it leaves the state.
Given, in particular, Stanford University's extensive record of data breaches, such access to personal information will put our children at great risk. Also, in light of Stanford University's data breaches, the fact that an institution may be "accredited" lends absolutely no assurances.
Please, Protect Our Children's Fundamental Right to Privacy and VOTE NO to Concurrence on HB 568 (Landry).
