We realize that many more bills are being voted on in the House, today. But here are a few that stood out to us and we hope that they will not sit well with you either. Please call or email your representatives and tell them to vote NO on the following bills, please feel free to copy and paste if you want:
HB250 by Representative Walt Leger, III - FUNDS/FUNDING: Authorizes additional deposits into the Workforce Training Rapid Response Fund and requires a private match for the use of the additional deposits (EG INCREASE SG RV See Note)
Vote No – This bill proposes to allow private interests to deposit money into this fund. This fund should not even exist as it is just a slush fund for Board of Supervisors of the La. Community and Technical College System. Each year the treasurer is to deposit taxpayer money into the fund to ensure the balance is $10 million. The money gets spent at the discretion of the unelected board on “workforce development” and “lifelong learning”.
Currently, private interests are not prohibited from creating their own “workforce development and lifelong learning” projects at their own discretion. It is not the purpose of government to develop a workforce. Instead of proposing laws that increase the special interest influence over government spending of our tax dollars, the legislature should propose to repeal the law that created this fund.
HB786 by Representative Walt Leger, III - PUBLIC SERVICE COMN: Increases and provides for inspection and supervision fees (OR +$700,000 SD RV See Note)
Vote No – This bill proposes nothing more than a tax increase. All of the monies generated will be dedicated funds.
HB779 by Representative Erich Ponti - TAX CREDITS: Provides with respect to the solar energy systems tax credit (EG INCREASE GF RV See Note)
Vote No – This bill seeks to limit the Solar Tax Credit, but we feel that the credit should be repealed. (We favor HB 510 on this topic.)
HB767 by Representative Karen Gaudet St. Germain - TRANSPORTATION: Creates the Louisiana State Transportation Infrastructure Bank (RE SEE FISC NOTE SD RV See Note)
Vote No – This bill seeks to establish an unelected commission to operate as a bank (formed as a corporation) to fund transportation and infrastructure projects throughout the state. This “bank” will function outside of the elected legislature and the taxpayers who will fund it. The general idea is that fees for use of the infrastructure by the taxpayers will help to fund the “bank”.
