A former LA State Senator made the following remarks in response to our post regarding SB 10 (Fields) which seeks to infringe upon a parent's right to decide whether or not to send their child to school by age 5:
"Then amend the bill to require parents to begin educating their children by home schooling at age 5. The theory that it’s fine to begin educating children at 7 is absurd. And then you wonder why LA is last or second to last in many arenas, has a poor labor pool to attract industry, and has more people leaving then moving here.
By the age of 7, my children were reading the Iliad and could engage in intellectual conversation. They had a head start in life for which they have never been behind since. Mostly because I personally ensured their education began - at home and at school - at a young age."
The People, LLC responded:
"The actual theory under which Americans operate within our free republic is that the God-given right for parents to rear their children as they see fit is acknowledged and protected under our federal and state constitutions.
The actual absurd notion is that you are on a Republican Party page promoting that the state should mandate what parents must do with their children in their own homes! What you chose for your children was just that--your choices--and every parent in our country owns the same right to make their choices for their children.
Our children were put on this earth to be nurtured by their parents in becoming the unique individuals that God intended them to be for His purposes...not as indentured servants within a state managed economy for globalist purposes.
Sadly, public servants must be reminded year in and year out that children do not exist to create a "labor pool" to "attract industry" on behalf of the state or its Corporate Citizens.
Our public servants must, also, be reminded year in and year out that they took an oath to protect and defend the individual, constitutional rights of each citizen of our state. This is actually their only job.
Louisiana parents are watching to see if Republican senators & representatives will do their job on SB 10; or, if they will join hands with the likes of Extreme Progressive Democrats, Cleo Fields and Katrina Jackson, in expanding our state's already expansive overreach."
Please, contact the senators.
Tell them to Vote NO on SB 10 (Fields).
Remind them that they have only 2 jobs in relation to this bill:
1. to protect the right of parents to direct the education of their children; and,
2. to protect the right of children to be nurtured and reared by their parents...not by the state.
