When our country’s founders declared our independence from Britain, they also declared certain “truths” to be “self-evident”:
“that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain Unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Government cannot grant us rights, because we already possess them at birth. Government, also, cannot take our rights away, because our rights as Americans are UNALIENABLE. This means that a lien cannot be placed on them for any reason. They are a part of each of us. We cannot even give them away! They are ours forever -- under any and all circumstances.
The fact that our unalienable rights belong to us individually is the reason that THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS A CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC and NOT A DEMOCRACY (“majority rule”). It is, also, the reason that we should never want it to be a democracy:
In our constitutional republic, no other individual or group (no matter how large or how popular their opinion may be) can decide what is best for you, how you should live, or what you should say, want, value, or believe: Not the Chambers of Commerce; NOT the Unions; NOT the Churches; NOT the UN, WTO, WHO, World Bank; NOT the Media or the Social Media; NOT the Non-Profits; NOT the Federal, State, Parish, or City Governments; NOT the School Boards; NOT the Numerous Associations; NOT the NFL or any other sports association; NOT the Corporations; NOT Protest Movements; and, NOT The Entertainment Industry.
The founders declared one other, very important point that we tend to forget: The proper and only role of government is “to secure these rights."
In the U.S. of A., our government exists for one purpose only: to protect our individual rights against the mob (majority rule).
It’s time that we, as American citizens, make our Independence Day Celebrations count by sharing this reminder in conversations with our family and friends.
