REP. SEABAUGH: "It would be difficult for this headline to be more misleading and incorrect. This bill was sponsored by a democrat and literally ALL votes against it were cast by Republicans. Also, it was killed in the Senate BY REPUBLICANS!!!"
THE PEOPLE, LLC: "Rep. Alan Seabaugh, are we simply to ignore the fact that it could only have passed the house with Republican support?! Are we also supposed to ignore the fact that this bill was cosponsored by Republican Reps. Broadwater & S. Carter??!"
That it is sponsored by a leading Democrat makes these facts even more astounding and unacceptable. The fact that it was killed in the Senate is the reason for the headline. Misleading? We think not. It is time for the Republicans to get OUR House in order.
[BTW, it is NOT correct that 'literally ALL votes against it were cast by Republicans.' Two Democrats and 1 Independent also voted against it, while You Were Absent On The Vote. Also, it was NOT killed in the Senate by Republicans---it was killed by one Democrat & one Republican. The only vote against killing it was cast by a...Republican! Quite obviously, we're Keeping Score.]
We expect our fundamental and individual rights to be protected by our Representatives. You can start by leading a stop to the seemingly unending attempts that began last year in the House to undo the data privacy protections for public school students that exist within Act 837--the Strongest Student Data Privacy Law in the Nation.
It's not enough to be absent or to vote NO:
--It's time for Representative after Representative (from ALL parties) to take the mic on the House floor and speak up against any and all attempts to weaken Act 837.
--It is time that the rights of the individual are vehemently protected against that of the special interests/'stakeholders.'
--It's time that our Representatives adopt the mantra of The People, LLC: 'The Individual Louisiana Citizen is the only 'stakeholder' who should have a voice in government.'
--It's time for our Representatives to refer to our individual rights within OUR CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC, because it MATTERS!!
No one could ever mistake what has been taking place and continues to take place in Our House of Representatives as anything resembling a concern for the individual or his/her rights. Obviously, we've had enough."
REP. SEABAUGH: "It was a democrat bill and the votes against it in the House were 34 Republicans 2 Democrats and 1 Ind. The votes for it included 39 Democrats and 20 Republicans. So blaming its passage on 'House Republicans' is absolutely incorrect and intentionally misleading."
THE PEOPLE, LLC: "So, you agree with our tally of the votes against the bill.
You also agree that without Republican support, HB 1144 (Leger) would have been defeated 57- 39.
A Majority Republican House should be expected to never let such a bill see the light of day in committee. Such a bill not coming up for a vote on the House floor should be a no brainer.
Get Our House In Order."
